Why Use a Photo GPS Viewer?

Every photo taken with a smartphone or GPS-enabled camera embeds location data in its EXIF metadata. A photo GPS viewer lets you extract and visualise this hidden information — see exactly where each photo was taken on an interactive map without installing any software.

Whether you're reviewing travel photos, auditing images for privacy before sharing, or simply curious about where a photo was taken, this tool reads the GPS coordinates directly from the file and plots them on a map. Everything runs in your browser — your photos are never uploaded.

  • Instantly extract GPS latitude and longitude from photo EXIF metadata
  • View all photo locations on an interactive map with clustering
  • Check which photos contain location data before sharing online

Frequently Asked Questions

What photo formats are supported?

The Photo GPS Viewer supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, and HEIF image formats. HEIC and HEIF are the default formats used by iPhones and iPads.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Your photos never leave your browser. All EXIF parsing and map display happens locally on your device.

What is photo GPS data?

Photo GPS data is location information (latitude and longitude) embedded in a photo's EXIF metadata by cameras and smartphones.

Why do some of my photos not have GPS data?

Photos may lack GPS data if location services were turned off when the photo was taken, if the image was edited or exported by software that strips metadata, if it's a screenshot, or if the camera doesn't have GPS capabilities.

Can I add GPS coordinates to photos without them?

Yes — use our Photo GPS Editor tool to add or edit GPS coordinates and download photos with the location data embedded in the EXIF metadata.

Does this work with iPhone HEIC photos?

Yes. The tool uses the exifr library which can read EXIF data directly from HEIC and HEIF files, the default photo formats on iPhones and iPads.

How do I extract photo GPS data?

Upload your photos to this tool and it will automatically extract the photo GPS location from the EXIF metadata. The coordinates are displayed on each thumbnail and plotted on an interactive map. No software installation needed.
